Mealworm Science Activities
Live Mealworm Activities
This link will take you to my page that has basic facts about mealworms and a link to 8 different activities I used in my science class.
How to raise mealworms
Information on how to raise and care for mealworms. These critters are ideal for a science classroom because they are so easy to care for.
Mini-biospheres
Mini-biospheres
These are so simple that they are also in my pre-school section. However, with my high school kids I turned them into an experiment and they really enjoyed this activity. With them, I broke each class up into small groups and gave them each an empty soda bottle. We discussed how scientists have to keep every variable the same in an experiment except the one they are changing (the independent variable). The students came up with a list of things we could change and I wrote them on the board. Some were: about of soil, height of bottle, color of bottle, amount of water, type of plants, adding earthworms, type of plastic covering the top, type of soil and the presence of holes in the top. Then each group chose one variable to test. My bottle was the control.
Biomes Project

After participating in an introductory discussion, student groups will each research one of the major terrestrial biomes, major aquatic/marine ecosystem types, or a Louisiana bioregion/ecosystem and prepare an illustrated presentation
